Quite glabrous; rootstock thick, with long, stout, tomentose root- fibres; leaves all radical 1-3 erect, 3-6 inches, oval or oval lanceolate, acute at both ends, bright green, membranous, with 3 principal veins (2 of which indistinct) and many intermediate connected by transverse venules; petiole about as long as the blade; slender, red brown, surrounded at the base by membranous sheaths; scape 8-18 inches, slender, red brown, with short acute imbricating basal sheaths, and a few much longer above; raceme 4-8 inches, laxly many flowered; flowers sub-erect, bracts convolute, as long as the sepals or longer, oval apiculate, very flat, with recurved margins, disk without calli or crest, base cordate, embracing the minute column. (Trimen (8) p. 208).

"The column is so small that it is not at once apparent that the anther is dorsal as in Spiranthes" J. D. H. (8) p. 208. Blume's illustrations (3) plate 45 agree with our local plants and our drawings, save that the Java specimens seem to be a little larger.

DISTRIBUTION :—Moist regions in shady forests from 1-4,000 feet; found in Khasia, Malay Peninsula, Java and South China.

COLOUR OF FLOWER --Sepals and petals light green, lip yellowish brown or pinkish dappled with purple-brown or red.
